New Mitsubishi Pajero Sport

,

The new Pajero Sport VGT will be sold alongside the Pajero Sport GS 4WD and Pajero Sport GL 2WD, offering a wider option for customers.

Mitsubishi’s proven robust and economical 2.5-litre Common Rail diesel engine is now fitted with a new powerhouse management that includes Variable Geometry Turbo, boosting power and torque levels to 178 PS and 350 Nm, respectively.

The Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT) technology uses variable vanes to control exhaust flow against the turbine blades, ensuring a constant delivery of additional fresh air to the engine for optimum output and performance.

The maximum torque of the Pajero Sport VGT is made available across a wide band from 1,800 to 3,500 rpm, ensuring stronger acceleration and flexibility. The engine management efficiency is also increased for better power and fuel efficiency.

The new powerful VGT engine also has a new gearbox to partner with. The Pajero Sport VGT features a new 5-speed automatic transmission with Sport Mode, one forward ratio more than the transmission in the Pajero Sport GS. ,
The Ertiga sits on a Suzuki SX4 platform stretched to have a long 2,740mm wheelbase (overall length: 4265mm, overall width: 1695mm, overall height: 1685mm). That’s actually a pretty long wheelbase, when you compare it to other vehicles in its class.

The 7-seater compact MPV is powered by either a new K-14 model 1.4 liter VVT four cylinder petrol engine producing 94 horsepower at 6,000rpm and 130Nm at 4,000rpm, or a 1.3 liter Fiat four cylinder turbodiesel engine producing 88 horsepower at 4,000rpm and 200Nm of torque from 1,750rpm.

the 1.3L variant for the Avanza 1.3E utilizes the K3-VE engine that pumps out 67bhp at 6,000rpm and 117Nm of torque at 4,400rpm, which gets transmitted to a set of 14″ rims wearing a set of 185/70 tyres, which we assume will be from Bridgestone as well, via a 5-speed manual transmission.

Proton Preve 2012 with CVT and CamPro IAFM+ mill

,

Prevé is available in three variant forms at point of launch, with two engine permutations and three transmissions – the list is led by the 1.6 CVT Premium, in turbocharged CamPro CFE form, followed by the 1.6 Executive CVT and 1.6 Executive five-speed manual, which both feature the normally-aspirated CamPro IAFM+ mill.

Both CVT-equipped variants feature a Punch CVT drivetrain – the High-line CFE variant gets the seven-speed VT3, dubbed the ProTronic, while the Medium-line spec’d IAFM+ runs with the six-speed VT2. The VT3 transmission is a derivative of the VT2 – both share the same package, but the VT3 is capable of higher maximum input torques (215 Nm as opposed to the VT2‘s 186 Nm).

Prevé is larger than its two predecessors, the Waja and the Persona – here’s a recap of the comparative figures. The earlier figures were accurate, with only a single mm difference in the width (earlier reported as 1,785 mm) as well as with the boot capacity of 508 litres (earlier, 506 litres) being the only items needing revision.

Meanwhile, in terms of kerb weight, the 1.6 Premium CFE tips the scales at 1,340 kg, while the 1.6 Executive CVT is 1,325 kg and the Executive manual is the lightest of the trio, at 1,305 kg. The car comes with a 50 litre capacity fuel tank.

Range Rover Evoque : World Car Design of the Year 2012

,

Range Rover Evoque : World Car Design of the Year 2012. Range Rover Evoque now in Malaysia. The Evoque comes in two bodystyles – a 5-door (above left) and a 3-door (right) – both of which are offered by Land Rover Malaysia (LRM). Both look virtually identical which is quite an achievement for the sleek shape and there’s only 10 mm difference in overall length. The sleekness tricks the eyes into thinking the Evoque is a long vehicle when its 4365 mm length is actually shorter than that of the Ford Escape (4480 mm) and it’s also 70 mm narrower than the Freelander. But the roofline is low, unusual for a Range Rover and it is low enough that the 3-door variant is referred to as a ‘coupe’.

Two 4-cylinder engines are available for the Malaysian market – a 2.0-litre petrol producing 240 ps/340 Nm and a 2.2-litre turbodiesel producing 190 ps/420 Nm. The petrol engine is supplied by Ford (remember, development of the model started there) and is one of the EcoBoost units which employ turbocharging and direct-injection to get more power out of the 1999 cc, comparable to a 6-cylinder engine. It’s essentially the same unit found in the latest Ford Mondeo and S-MAX but with a bit of custom-tuning to suit the Evoque’s usage requirements. As for the turbodiesel, this is the unit found in the Freelander.

Both engines come with 6-speed automatic transmissions supplied by Aisin-Warner and though there are front-wheel drive variants also available, LRM is currently offering only the 4WD variants. In other countries, front-wheel drive variants may be acceptable because they can be priced lower but with Malaysia’s unreasonably high taxes, the price points for the Evoque here are high and customers would be unwilling to buy it if it did not come with 4WD – which a real Range Rover should have.

PRICES (without insurance, P.Malaysia/East Malaysia)

2.0-litre Petrol Coupe Dynamic Plus – RM393,888/RM397,388
2.0-litre Petrol 5-Door Prestige – RM363,888/RM367,388
2.2-litre Diesel 5-Door Prestige – RM353,888/RM357,388

The New Volkswagen Up 2012

,

The New Volkswagen up 2012

Volkswagen Up has two engine power options-60 PS and 75 PS. Total displacement is 999cc. Volkswagen Up has defeated 34 other car models including BMW 3 series and Porsche 911. The quality of materials, engine and steering control made Volkswagen Up to stand up among the all 34 contenders. New York International Auto Show declared Volkswagen Up as the 2012 World Car of the Year. It has got 3-door and 5-door hatchback models. It was launched in 2011. It has got 1.0 litre petrol engine with 5-speed manual suspension

Two transmissions are available with the Volkswagen up! – both a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed automatic. The 5-speed manual is called the MQ100, and weighs 25kg. The 5-speed auto is interesting – it weighs just 30kg and it’s not one of those dual clutch transmissions that Volkswagen are so famous for. The new 5-speed gearbox is a single clutch automated manual

The Volkswagen up! uses Volkswagen’s new EA211 family of three cylinder 12 valve engines. There are no diesel engines introduced at debut time. There are two different 1.0 litre (999cc) petrol engines – one with 60 PS output consuming an average of 4.2 litres per 100km, and another more high powered 75 PS version consuming an average of 4.3 litres per 100km. Peak torque is 95Nm between 3,000 to 5,000 rpm, with 90% of that available between 2,000rpm to 6,000rpm.
